Brief History

The 32d Tank Battalion was activated 15 July, 1947 at Fort Knox Kentucky as an element of the 3d Armored Division. The Battalion was a basic training unit. On 30 July, 1948, the Battalion was redesignated the 32d Medium Tank Battalion. It continued to serve as a basic training unit at Fort Knox until 1955. 

The Battalion was redesignated 15 March, 1955 as the 32d Tank Battalion. 

The Battalion left the Brooklyn Army Terminal in May of 1956 aboard the USS Butner. They proceeded to Friedberg, West Germany which was to be their home for the next two years. 

The 32d Tank Battalion was relieved from assignment on 1 October, 1957 with equipment and personnel being assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32d Armored Regiment.
