Summerall, Roy J. SSG 2/C/4-32 AR (M1A1 Tank Commander) Killed 2 April 1991 during a patrol when he stepped on a mine or cluster bomb vicinity of the Safwan, Iraq refugee camp.  He died during aerial medevac.
Swano, Peter L. “Pete” SPC HHC/3-5 CAV (Mortars) Died of illness around 20 FEB 1991.  He suffered from pneumonia-like symptoms in the Forward Assembly Area (FAA).  Circumstances of his diagnosis and treatment are not factually known.  He became critically ill, and had to be taken to the battalion aid station.  He collapsed and died there just days before the ground attack started.  TF 3-5 CAV named the “Black Knight” (chess piece) emblem painted on all combat vehicles “SWANO” in his honor.
