Most of you will remember that the Association supported leaving the 3d Armored Division monument at Fort Knox with the other memorials there next to the Patton Museum.

With the Armor School relocated to Fort Benning, a new Armor Museum is being developed there as a companion to the Infantry Museum. As part of the Armor Museum concept, the many Armor units and their associated groups are creating new monuments to memorialize their units and the veterans of those units. The Association of 3d Armored Division Veterans is extremely pleased to announce that it is our goal to also have a monument there that remembers and reveres the Spearhead and her veterans.

But, we need a lot of help with this project! To chair the fund raising for this endeavor, the Association has asked Lieutenant General (retired) Thomas N. Griffen Jr. to lead the effort and he has agreed to take on this challenge. General Griffin led the 3d Armored Division from June of 1986 through March of 1988 and he continues to lead Spearheaders with this fund raising project.

Renowned military artist Jody Harmon has been commissioned to design the monument and we will post the final design when it is completed and approved. Follow this page for updates on both the fund raising and the design for this monument.
